TRAILS OF MARIN
Project Scope
1. Content Gathering
Stage one will include gathering a ton of content. Client will explain the vision and then be asked to provide images and language to support the vision. An idea of size and length of final product is key at this point. I recommend going to a book store and taking photos of books that you think really nail the look and feel.
2. Mood Board
On our end we’ll produce a mood board that will reflect the clients vision, taking into account cost to produce end product. Once a shared understanding of product and cost is agreed on we will move into design phase.
In addition to a mood board we will look to source companies that can produce the final look and feel we are hoping to achieve. Learning about the many options will be important and price comparing will be key.

DESIGN & COPY
3. Design
The first half of this phase will be spent designing a highly effective and pleasing design for the client. The details will not be included, copy will likely be staged. The priority will be on mood, legability, and flow with a focus on balancing, photography, colors, font size textures and iconography.
4. Copy
The second portion of this phase should be highly inspired by the above triggering, the client to dive into perfecting all copy. Meanwhile we will be perfecting any and all design expectations.

LAYOUT & PRODUCTION
5. Layout
At this stage we will dial in art and copy to fit within a production template to include details related to safety guidelines for text and bleed options for photos. Printing a medium to high resolution mock to get a feel for how the pages flow will be important at this stage. Gaining a sense of confidence in the final product will be key here.
6. Production
If a single sample can be produced at a reasonable price we can consider this prior to bulk printing. Another option is to request printed examples. A combination of Stages 2 and 6 should be at play here, ideally we’re confident in which company we want to print with and have pricing dialed-in well before printing begins.
At this point we should be ready to begin final production.
